Grundy County Board names new administrator

George Gray unanimously approved by board members

MORRIS – The Grundy County Board has selected and approved a new county administrator.

George Gray was approved by the county board Monday night, filling the vacancy created when former county administrator Doug Pryor decided not to seek a renewal of his contract. Pryor's tenure ended in May.

Gray will be compensated $92,500 for his first year in the role with annual raises in line with other employees. Specific raises were not included in his agreement with the county, but he will be evaluated each year by the county board and potentially at other times if the board’s personnel committee sees fit.

Gray spent more than 10 years as an administrator for the village of Peotone, and resigned under pressure from the Peotone Village Board in 2015 along with the village president, according to media reports.

Gray lives outside the county. A stipulation in the contract states that if after six months of service the board determines that in-county residency is required, Gray will obtain residency in the county within one month.
