MORRIS — Former 2nd ward Morris alderman Ken Sereno died on the morning of July 15.

Ninety-year-old Sereno died of natural causes after spending a week in Morris hospital dealing with cardiac issues, according to Grundy County County Coroner John Callahan.

Sereno spent 34 years on the Morris City Council. He resigned as alderman only two years ago. He was the longtime business owner of Sereno Blacksmith Shop and Sereno’s Ace Hardware in Morris for 48 years. Sereno also studied local history and wrote books on the history of Grundy County.

Mayor Richard Kopczick called Sereno a great historian and friend after working alongside him as an alderman and as the mayor.

"It's a great loss to the city of Morris and to Grundy County," Kopczick said. "His heart was there to look out for the community to the very best of his ability."

Services will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at UC Davis-Callahan funeral home. A celebration of life service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Morris on Thursday morning.
