JOLIET – A homeless man who has been repeatedly arrested by police was once again in handcuffs after stealing food from a Mobil gas station, authorities said.
On Tuesday, David K. Towner, 62, went into the Mobil gas station at 1805 W. Jefferson St., and got himself some food and drink, police said. He went to the counter as if he was going to pay but left instead, said Joliet Deputy Police Chief Ed Gregory.
The clerk attempted to stop Towner but he allegedly used profanity in response.
After officers were contacted, officers located Towner in the northwest corner of the gas station parking lot as he was heading toward Joliet West High School. They arrested him for retail theft and he was taken to the Will County jail.
Towner has been arrested by police in the past after allegedly being found inside cars at both D’Arcy Buick GMC and Hawk Chevrolet car dealerships.
Towner was also arrested by police for allegedly tearing flowers out of flowerpots, damaging numerous flower beds and throwing flowerpots onto the sidewalk near the Will County Courthouse.
Towner formerly lived in Romeoville, according to police, but is now homeless.
