JOLIET – A Joliet man was arrested after he drove away from police officers who were attempting to stop him for not having a driver’s license, police said.
At 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Tashaun McCarter, 39, of the 2000 block of Schuster Avenue was arrested on charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding, driving with a revoked license and reckless driving. On Jan. 31, police officers reportedly spotted McCarter driving a black Nissan Murano. McCarter was heading south on Center Street and approaching Jefferson Street, Joliet Deputy Police Chief Ed Gregory said in an email.
The officers were aware that McCarter’s driver’s license had been revoked in 2001 and attempted to pull him over, Gregory said. McCarter allegedly fled from the scene, taking off eastbound on Jefferson Street at a high rate of speed while disregarding several traffic control devices, Gregory said.
On Tuesday, officers found McCarter driving in the 2000 block of Schuster Avenue in a silver Impala, Gregory said. Officers reportedly seized cocaine and cash from his car, Gregory said. McCarter was arrested and taken to the Will County jail.
