ROMEOVILLE – A Romeoville man is in jail after allegedly stabbing his father after a domestic dispute on Saturday.

Romeoville police responded to a domestic dispute between a husband and wife at 3:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Gainsborough Drive. But when they arrived, they encountered Brian Engelsman Jr., 22, who had blood on him and was holding a knife, according to a news release.

Officers entered the home and found Engelsman’s father, Brian Engelsman Sr., 49, lying on the floor with multiple stab wounds. The elder Engelsman told police he was stabbed by his son.

The original dispute was between Engelsman Sr. and his wife and was not physical.

Engelsman Sr. was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove and was in critical condition Monday. His son was taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital for wounds he suffered during the altercation with his father over the knife, police said.

Engelsman Jr. later was released from the hospital and taken into custody by police. He was booked into the Will County jail at 1:33 a.m. Sunday on a charge of aggravated domestic battery.

Engelsman Jr. was due to appear in court on Monday afternoon.
