About 9:45 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the Panda Express at 2410 W. Jefferson St. in Joliet after receiving a report of a man who was inside of the restaurant and threatening customers.

The Panda Express staff told police that a man later identified as Omar Israel, 49, of the 200 block of Granada Court in Bolingbrook became aggressive about getting his food and claimed he “used to shoot at cop. I’ll shoot at them,” Joliet Deputy Police Chief Ed Gregory said in an email.

During the alarming encounter, Israel made physical contact with a 16-year-old girl who worked at the Panda Express food counter, Gregory said.

Israel fled the store, Gregory said. Officers checked the area for him Gregory said, and he was later located at about 11:40 p.m. in the area of the 2400 block of North Jefferson Street, Gregory said.

Israel was charged with battery, disorderly conduct and criminal trespass to property. He was released on his own recognizance.
