The Lewis University Computer and Mathematical Sciences Cyber Defense Group finished seventh in the 2018 National Cyber Defense Competition at Iowa State University.
Computer science students Matt Ratajczyk of Plainfield, Ryan Meeker of Joliet, Gabriel Diaz DeLeon of Wheaton, Ian Stickfort of Joliet, Dan Szuba of Lockport and Yesenia Gonzalez of Chicago set up and secured a variety of computer systems and networks against attacks from the competition’s aggressive Red Team of hackers.
Part of Lewis University’s CaMS department, the Cyber Defense Group is a student-driven, extracurricular club. The CaMS Cyber Defense Group is mentored by assistant professor of CaMS Jason Perry.
In February, a team that included Meeker, Stickfort, Diaz DeLeon, and other members of the Cyber Defense Group placed third at the State of Illinois Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition. They also participated in the Department of Energy’s Cyber Defense Competition at Argonne National Laboratory on April 7.
