Shorewood HUGS donated $2,000 to the Forest Preserve District of Will County to be used for the care and training of the district’s K-9, Jullo.

Sue Coyle, a Shorewood HUGS board member, presented the check on April 23 to Ralph Schultz, the Forest Preserve’s chief operating officer.

The funds were raised during the charity group’s annual “HUGS for Hounds” doggy Easter egg hunt, which was held on March 31 at the Forest Preserve’s Hammel Woods Dog Park.

Shorewood HUGS charges a registration fee of $5 a dog for the egg hunt to raise funds for the donation. The group has been hosting the egg hunt at Hammel Woods and donating money to the Forest Preserve’s police K-9 program since 2009.

Coyle, who is the event chairwoman, said “HUGS for Hounds” was one of the group’s first events and each year it has been held, the egg hunt has combined the best of both worlds: fun for dogs and their owners and raising money for a good cause.
