Candidates running for countywide offices, county board districts and the
sanitary district can file petitions for nomination beginning 8:30 a.m. Monday
by mail or in person at the Will County Clerk’s Office, located at 302 N. Chicago
St. in Joliet.
Petition filing runs through 5 p.m. June 25, according to a news release. Anyone who submits a petition at 8:30 a.m. the first day, or from 4 to 5 p.m. the last day, could be entered in the placement lottery.
Petitions are entered in the lottery if two or more petitions are received at the same time for the same office by more than one new political party, independent or nonpartisan candidate.
The placement lottery decides the order in which political parties are shown on the ballot during the general election Nov. 6.
Interested candidates must submit their petitions with signatures from registered voters in the county. These requirements vary based on position sought, and can be found on the Will County Clerk’s website, thewillcountyclerk.com.
Open positions for petitions include county clerk and trustee for the sanitary district.
