A California woman was arrested after she refused to leave a Frankfort residence and knocked a police sergeant to the ground, authorities said.

About 1:50 a.m. Wednesday, Janelle E. Halbrook, 23, of the 9800 block of Bartley Avenue in Sante Fe Springs, California, was booked into the Will County jail on charges of criminal trespass to residence, criminal trespass to remain on land, resisting a police officer and aggravated battery to a police officer.

Frankfort Deputy Police Chief Kevin Keegan said Halbrook had reportedly traveled by train to Illinois and visited a residence in the 100 block of Pacific Avenue in Frankfort. Once there, she allegedly become intoxicated from drinking and refused to leave at the owner’s request.

Officers arrived and asked her to leave several times, Keegan said. The homeowner agreed to file a complaint against Halbrook for trespassing. She was asked again to leave but she continued to refuse, Keegan said.

The officers told her they had no choice but to arrest her and when they began to do so she allegedly started kicking the officers, Keegan said. She allegedly managed to kick and knock down a police sergeant. She eventually was arrested and placed in a squad car, where she continued to kick at the windows, Keegan said.

Keegan said he didn’t know why Halbrook refused to leave the residence. He said she provided officers with an address in Sante Fe Springs, California.

A public defender was appointed to Halbrook’s case. As of Wednesday, a pretrial investigation and risk assessment have been conducted.
