Two dog owners were cited by police in separate incidents after their pets allegedly viciously attacked other dogs.
Shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday, a Rottweiler belonging to Ronald C. Mayweather, 69, of the 400 block of Grover Street killed a Chihuahua, police said.
Officers responded to the 400 block of Gardner Street after receiving a complaint of a dog bite, Joliet police Sgt. Darrell Gavin said in an email.
When the officers arrived on the scene, they spoke with a woman who claimed that Mayweather was walking his Rottweiler without a leash when it attacked and fatally bit her Chihuahua, he said.
At 12:38 p.m. Wednesday, Kassandra I. Serrano, 22, of the 800 block of Summit Street, was cited after her two pit bulls allegedly attacked a dog.
Officers and animal control staff responded to a dog complaint and met wit ha woman who claimed her dog was in the backyard before it was attacked, Gavin said.
Two loose pit bulls allegedly ran in her yard and attacked her dog, he said.
Serrano received a citation charging her with negligent control of an animal.
