A 21-year-old Wilmington man died in a car crash Wednesday night in Shorewood.
Dustin Dransfeldt died at 7:55 p.m. Wednesday in the Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center emergency room in Joliet, according to a news release from the Will County Coroner’s Office.
Another unnamed male from Indiana suffered serious injuries from the crash and also was taken to St. Joseph before being transferred to Loyola Medical Center, according to a news release from the Shorewood Police Department.
Troy Fire Chief Andy Doyle said the call had come about 7 p.m.
The crash appeared to be a head-on collision, but it was unclear who might have crossed the center line, Doyle said.
A crew from Station 1, which is about 1,000 feet from the scene of the crash, responded first. Station 2 then was dispatched with an ambulance and a ladder truck that carried additional extrication equipment.
Doyle said both Dransfeldt and the other unnamed driver required removal from their vehicles, which took about 20 minutes.
Dransfeldt reportedly was driving a vehicle that collided with another at the 500 block of Cottage Street in Shorewood, according to the Shorewood release.
Doyle said Route 59 between Jefferson Street and Interstate 55 was closed until about 11:30 p.m. for cleanup efforts.
A Lifestar helicopter was requested and flew to the scene but did not transport either patient, Doyle said.
Shorewood police are investigating the incident, and an autopsy was scheduled for Thursday. Anyone with additional information on the crash is encouraged to call 815-725-1460.
The R. W. Patterson Funeral Home in Braidwood is handling funeral arrangements.
