To the Editor:
I recently offered my opinion on an unrelated subject, but cited the fact that our Republican-heavy Supreme Court recently ruled in favor of Donald Trump’s Muslim ban. Well, Robert Lemke apparently, found issue with that, stating “... there is no such ban.” Lemke further stated that it’s “The same ban President Barack Obama had.” Again, I would like to offer some clarification.
First, let’s get real here. The Supreme Court ruled on Trump’s third attempt at banning Muslims from entering the country and making good on one of his signature campaign promises. In this third attempt, the Muslim ban was watered down considerably.
Second, Obama restricted entry from some countries when intelligence indicated a significant threat was imminent. Trump is restricting entry because the citizens of these countries are not white.
Far too many Republicans turn their backs on the fact that their elected leader is a racist; they refuse to recognize the fact that much of Trump’s campaign was funded by folks such as Richard Spencer and his alt-right group, Breitbart News, Steve Bannon and his followers and possibly even Vladimir Putin (time will tell).
Personally, I find this appalling.
With all due respect, Lemke, your Supreme Court – the court that Republicans cheated to get – ruled in favor of Trump’s Muslim ban. It’s just that simple.
In November, vote American, not Republican!
