A Steger man was arrested Wednesday after he repeatedly struck a man with a steel pipe and even hit his own wife when she tried to intervene, police said.
Police were called Wednesday to the 300 block of Dollar Tree Lane, Joliet, after receiving a report of an attack that occurred in the parking lot.
A caller contacted the police and said that a man was hitting another man with a steel pipe, Joliet police Sgt. Darrell Gavin said in an email.
When the officers arrived, they saw John Cisneros, 40, of Steger, and another man embroiled in a physical altercation, Gavin said. The officers separated the two men, but Cisneros kept trying to go after the other man, Gavin said.
Officers handcuffed Cisneros because of his behavior, Gavin said, then spoke with the other man, who said he was in his car in the parking lot when Cisneros began to hit his window with a steel pipe.
The man said he tried to leave by driving away, but Cisneros then got into his own car and rammed it into his, Gavin said.
The man said that when he got out of his car, Cisneros attacked him with a steel pipe, Gavin said, and used the pipe to hit him on the head.
The man tried to defend himself and saw Cisneros push and hit a woman, who turned out to be Cisneros’ wife, Gavin said. Cisneros’ wife told police she tried to break up the altercation but Cisneros kept grabbing her and throwing her to the ground, Gavin said.
Gavin said a witness at the scene corroborated the statements of Cisneros’ wife and the other man.
