A heroin trafficker managed to avoid Interstate 80 traffic by smuggling the drug from Chicago to New Lenox via the Metra train, police said.

Daniel Suerth, 38, of the 100 block of Harper Lane in Lemont was arrested Tuesday by Will County Sheriff’s deputies and charged with the manufacture or delivery of heroin and possession of heroin. The sheriff’s gang-suppression unit investigated Suerth for a month before taking him into custody at the New Lenox Metra Station, police said.

The Drug Enforcement Administration assisted in the investigation of Suerth, “who was trafficking heroin from Chicago to New Lenox via the Metra train,” police said in a news release.

When he was taken into custody, Suerth was holding more than 100 grams of heroin and about a half-gram of cocaine, police said.

Suerth appeared in court Wednesday, and his bond was set at $500,000. He remained in custody Thursday, and will return Oct. 17.
