A Mokena man drove drunk and smashed his car into another driver’s car in Frankfort Township, police said.

About 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Will County Sheriff’s deputies were sent to the intersection of St. Francis Road and 88th Avenue in Frankfort Township after receiving a report of a two-car collision.

A 55-year-old woman was in her Buick while facing south on 88th Avenue and waiting to turn left onto eastbound St. Francis Road, Will County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said in an email.

While the woman was sitting in her car, she was struck by a Ford that was trying to turn right onto northbound 88th Avenue, Hoffmeyer said. The Ford made too wide of a turn and struck the Buick in the front and driver side, she said.

The woman refused medical attention at the scene.

William N. Nagy, 53, of the 9400 block of Birch Avenue, Mokena, who was the driver of the Ford, was slurring his words and had a difficult time standing while deputies spoke with him, Hoffmeyer said.

Nagy was given field sobriety tests, which he failed, Hoffmeyer said, and his blood-alcohol content at the scene was allegedly at 0.285. Nagy said he had consumed three beers, according to police reports.

Nagy was charged with aggravated DUI, DUI, improper lane use, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
