HINSDALE – The wrestling teams from Providence Catholic and Minooka took fourth and fifth place, respectively, at Hinsdale Central’s 24-team Whitlatch Invite. Local individuals who won titles were Plainfield North’s Jacob Macatangay (106 pounds) and Lemont’s Apollo Gothard (220), while Minooka’s Jack McClimon (126) and Alec Dufour (182), Lemont’s Drew Nash (132) and Grant LaDuke (145) and Providence’s Josh Ramos (138) took second.
Taking third were Minooka’s Nathan Berta (106) and Drew Gutknecht (285) and Providence’s Kevin Countryman (152) and Ryan Boersma (220), while Plainfield North’s Jared Gumila (132), and Providence’s Aidan O’Connor (160) finished fourth.
Lincoln-Way West goes 3-0: The Warriors beat Moline, 47-20, Wheaton North, 49-21, and Cary-Grove, 57-18, at their quad. Going 3-0 were Johnny Buell (113), Javen Estrada (126), Garrett Geigner (138), Payton Geigner (145), Brock Pfeiffer (160) and Jacob Cronk (182).
Lincoln-Way Central at Glenbrook South: The Knights took third in the Erb Invite. Conor Smetana (113), Jackson Hosman (152) and Mason Sargent (195) won titles, while Joey Malito (106) and Justin Brauer (126) took third.
Romeoville at Rich East: The Spartans placed third at Rich East’s Rocket Invite as Kaleb Zeffield (120), Nick Torres (126) and Azael Martinez (138) won titles, River Kowal (132) took second, Jaden Ruiz (113) was third, and Anthony Mark (195) finished fourth.
Coal City goes 1-1: The shorthanded Coalers beat Bishop McNamara, 42-23, and fell, 35-34, to Joliet Catholic Academy. Going 2-0 were Trent Akre (120), Ryan Wasielewski (152), Ashton Harvey (160), David Papach (170), Cole Garcia (195) and Wills Payton (220).
Joliet Central splits: The Steelmen beat Bolingbrook, 40-33, and lost to Oak Forest 44-9 as Ke’Andre Wiley (170) and Darrion Brown (285) both had 2-0 days.
Minooka first at Lockport: The Indians won the Dane Walker Invite with a 5,676, while Joliet West, Joliet Central and Lockport’s Gold and Maroon teams were third through sixth. Joliet West’s Lexi Robbins (1,262) was second, Minooka’s Gina Russell (1,232) took fifth, Joliet Central’s Devon Thomas (1,171) was ninth, Plainfield Central’s Arian Guarino (1,171) was 10th, and Lockport Gold’s Hannah Egner (1,169) placed 11th.
Lockport 60, Joliet Catholic 38: The Porters (6-2) were paced by Matt Hatzopoulos (15 points) and Tom Halatek (eight points, nine rebounds) in their home game at Central gym, while the Hilltoppers were led by Mike Payne (nine points).
Lincoln-Way Central 45, Minooka 39: The Knights (7-3) won their fifth in a row behind Sean Curran (15 points), Mike Maloney (nine points) and Nick Tingley (nine points).
Romeoville 57, Rich Central 43: The Spartans picked up a win at the Crete-Monee Shootout. Noah Ferrell led the Spartans (8-1) with 15 points.
Minooka wins two: The Indians (13-1) staged two fourth-quarter rallies to open the Bradley-Bourbonnais Invite. In the opener, they claimed a 52-51 win over Rockford Auburn behind Cierra Bachmann (18 points), Brooke McNally (10 points) and Sophie Darden
(10 points). In their second game, they won, 53-50, over Joliet Central in overtime. Savannah Johnson (14 points), Caitlyn Hoover (12 points) and Bachmann (10 points) led the Indians. Joliet Central also collected a 62-53 win over Bishop McNamara.
Joliet West 55, Romeoville 34: The Tigers wrapped up play in the Oak Lawn Invite with a win over the Spartans, as all-tournament pick Jazz Evans led all scorers with 22 points.
St. Francis 88, St. Ambrose 77: The Saints (10-3, 4-1) were led by Pietro Badalassi (17 points), Malik Bailey
(13 points), Terrion Howard (12 points), Jorden Thornton (12 points) and Mitch Kwasigroch (10 points) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory.
Lewis 65, Michigan Tech 51: The Flyers (7-1) won their sixth in a row. Leading Lewis were Jessica Kelliher (23 points, eight rebounds), Gabby Green
(13 points) and Tierney Lockett
St. Francis 57, St. Ambrose 52: The Saints (8-3, 6-1) were led in the CCAC win by Kaitlin Aylward (16 points,
10 rebounds) and Leah Sims (13 points).
