Troy speech team earns high honors at state competition

Members of the Troy speech team received several Judges’ Choice Awards, in addition to first, second and third places, at the recent IESA state speech competition.

Eighth-graders Emma Motley and Araceli Sotelo were awarded Judges’ Choice Awards in the category of solo performance.

Zoie Jarrett, eighth grade, and Payton Fraser, seventh grade, received Judges’ Choice Awards in the category of duet performance.

Karis Posteluk, seventh grade, was awarded a Judges’ Choice Award for original solo script for a performance she wrote herself.

The competition was held at Troy Middle School in Joliet and included teams from 13 schools.

The Troy speech team is composed of students from Troy Middle School and William B. Orenic Intermediate School in Plainfield, both of which are in Troy Community School District 30-C.
