Illinois State Museum in Lockport recently added two paintings to permanent collection
These are “Still Life of Peaches” and “Still Life of Apples," both dated 1892, oil on canvas by Lyman A. Loomis (1850-1926) from Peoria. These are extraordinary examples of late 19th century still life painting.
Loomis was a portrait, still life and genre scene painter based in Peoria. He has been classified as part of the Illinois Historical Art Project as an artist (primarily painter) born before 1900 and lived at least half of their career in Illinois.
The donor from Chicago is a fourth generation descendant of the patron who originally purchased the paintings. Visit www.illinoisstatemuseum.org.
