The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for much of northern Illinois Monday.
The service predicted possible freezing drizzle could affect the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes. An advisory was in effect from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m.
"Temperatures in the low- to mid-20s will result in drizzle freezing on contact with untreated surfaces," the alert said. "A light glaze of ice may accumulate on area roads and pavements."
A winter weather advisory means periods of freezing rain will cause travel difficulties, according to the alert. Motorists should expect slippery roads, slow down and use caution while driving.
