To the Editor:
I enjoy reading comments in the editorial section about those lazy people who should be out there working. Most of them are working. Sometimes they may work two jobs and sometimes even three jobs. They are the working poor.
This is sort of an oxymoron, but look deeper. These people have such low wages and such inadequate benefits that they qualify for being below the poverty level. That’s right, Ray (and others), you can work and work and still be poor.
Our conservative friends that mostly employ these people say they can’t give them a living wage or benefits that are actually worth something. Conservative farming groups and food processing companies build in places where they can draw immigrants to labor for less. This is not new. What is new is that suddenly it’s those darn liberals that are causing the problem. Even Trump has been hiring illegal immigrants in his organization for years and years.
As far as new toll roads, be careful what you wish for. All toll roads in Illinois were supposed to be free once they paid for themselves. But like the lottery going to education many legislators saw that fat cow as something for their district. Besides the main conservative “stick in the mud” Mitch McConnell has held every federal road and bridge improvement bill in his pocket for the last four years.
