Catholic Charities' Back to School Fair set for Aug. 1 in Joliet

Catholic Charities’ 27th annual Back to School Fair is set for Aug. 1 in Joliet.

The annual event provides school supplies, haircuts and even dental checkups to thousands of low-income Will County students and their families ahead of the start of the school year. In recent years, the event has had about 3,700 people in attendance.

Other services available at the fair will include vision and hearing testing, sports physicals, lead screenings, asthma screenings, nutrition information, blood donations, employment information, housing information and legal and financial advisors.

The available health services are free of charge and provided from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Parents planning on attending the event must bring the right documentation to receive supplies and services, including identification for all household members, proof of income and verification of their address.

Any child attending the fair must be accompanied by an adult. If a parent or guardian is unable to attend, any adult representative must bring all the necessary documentation for the absent parent and children.

Proper identification can include state IDs, driver’s licenses, passports or Mexican consulate IDs for adults and birth certificates, Social Security cards or medical cards for children. Proof of income can include printouts forms from public aid, social security, unemployment, food stamps, link cards, check stubs or medical cards.

The fair will be wheelchair accessible, and Spanish interpreters will be present.

The fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 1 at Joliet Catholic Academy, located at 1200 N. Larkin Ave.
