Bolingbrook woman nominated to fill Will County Board vacancy

The Will County Democratic Central Committee announced it was nominating a Bolingbrook woman to fill the vacancy left by Don Moran after he retired from his seat last month.

The Democrats nominated Margaret Tyson, a local political activist and substitute teacher, to represent District 3, which includes parts of Bolingbrook, Romeoville and Lockport.

Tyson said she’s been active in party politics since 2012 with canvassing and phone banking.

“I just do it because I enjoy it, and I like for people to be informed,” she said.

Tyson said she still teaches in Valley View School District 365U and has taught in the past in Plainfield School District 202. She said she also had a career as an information technology professional.

In a letter to Will County Executive Larry Walsh Sr., Bill Thoman, the chair of the Will County Democrats, described Tyson as someone who “will work tirelessly to provide high quality representation for her ... constituents.”

The letter said Tyson will be presented at the next county board meeting for approval.

Moran had served on the County Board since 2012 and was reelected in 2016. He announced his retirement from the board last month because he was able to retire from his full-time job early and move to Arizona.
