Joliet Airport Festival has been postponed until Oct. 6.
The annual aviation festival at Joliet Regional Airport was scheduled for Sunday but was postponed because of forecasts of heavy rain and storms.
Airport Festival features plane rides, airplane displays and a car show – all of which was appearing increasingly unlikely as the outlook for Sunday’s weather worsened, airport manager Jennifer McFarland said.
Planes would not take off during lightning, and even the threat of bad weather was affecting the festival, she said.
“With the forecast of the heavy rains coming into the region, it would limit the number of planes and cars for the car show that people would be able to see,” McFarland said.
Hours for the Oct 6 event will remain 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“It will be the same event just on a different day,” McFarland said.
The event also features a pancake breakfast, food vendors, pedal planes, bounce houses and other activities.
The airport is owned by the Joliet Park District and is located on West Jefferson Street.
