Dec. 2

• Lake Renwick Heron Rookery – Open daily from 8 a.m. to sunset through Feb. 28. Hiking, running, bird viewing programs. Visit bit.ly/renwickreopens.

• Santa Photo With Your Pets! – 6 to 8 p.m.; also Dec. 9, Santa's House, 111 E. Illinois Ave., Morris.

• “Hoot Hike" registration deadline – Event is 6 to 7 p.m., Dec. 4, Isle a la Cache Museum Romeoville. Learn about owls, including what to look and listen for, and then go on a 0.5-mile hike in search of these elusive predators. Free; all ages. • Cat adoption – 5 to 7 p.m.; also 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Bolingbrook PetSmart on Weber Road. Call Humane Haven Animal Shelter at 630-378-4208 for information or an appointment. All Humane Haven cats are spayed or neutered, microchipped, FeLV/FIV tested and have their distemper and rabies shots.

• “Animals in Winter: Hike and Craft" registration deadline – 10 a.m. to noon, Dec. 7, Four Rivers Environmental Education Center, Channahon. • “Four Rivers Winter Bird Hike" registration deadline – Event is 8 to 10 a.m., Dec. 6, Four Rivers Environmental Education Center, Channahon. Learn from an interpretive naturalist and other like-minded birders. 1-2 mile hike through oak-hickory forest or restored prairie near the Des Plaines River. Free; ages 18 or older.
