Plainfield South's Sayvaun Roberts broke a 43-yard touchdown run with 7 minutes 23 seconds remaining last Friday night and Anthony Marmolejo kicked the extra point as the Cougars battled back into a 14-14 tie with Plainfield Central.
The Wildcats responded. Justin Divelbiss, who completed 21-of-30 passes for 221 yards, hit four consecutive passes – a 9-yarder to Matthews Morganfield and completions of 10, 34 and 9 yards to Justin Lentz. Central was at the South 25-yard line, facing a fourth-and-1. Then a delay of game against the Wildcats, then another delay. All of a sudden, it's fourth-and-11, and Roberts breaks up a Divelbiss pass over the middle.
"I was questioning the timing thing," Central coach Jon Pereiro said. "That's on me. But our kids picked us up. That's been our theme, we've got each other's back. How proud I am of these kids."
