Try these 3 easy ice cream recipes from the 19th century at home
Several years ago, I put together a cookbook as a fundraiser and included quite a number of vintage and Victorian recipes.
One 1860 cookbook, "Miss Beecher’s domestic receiptbook: designed as a supplement to her Treatise on domestic economy," provided a number of recipes as did a few others.
Last year, my daughter Rebekah Baran and I embarked on a monthly culinary adventure to prepare some of these recipes, including these three: vanilla ice cream, strawberry ice cream and apple ice.
You don't need ice cream makers or any special equipment. You only need a few basic ingredients, a sense of adventure and a taste for frozen sweet treats.
They're so good, you may never buy commercial ice cream again.
