Making a house a home

SPONSORED

What makes a house a home? Everyone will have a different answer to this question. But for most, it means a place of comfort, security and peace. Joliet Area Community Hospice (JACH) provides care to patients wherever they call home; their family home, a nursing home, assisted living facility or even a hospital. When a higher level of care and symptom management is needed, JACH patients can be moved to our Hospice Home inpatient unit. This facility opened in 2004 and has provided comfort and security along with high quality care to thousands. The building was built to provide a home-like setting for patients and their families.

The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization states that hospices care for more than 1.65 million Americans each year. That number continues to rise.  Along with this trend, JACH has experienced tremendous growth in past years and sees the need to expand and renovate its Hospice Home Inpatient unit.

Our Remembering from the Heart capital campaign for this project began in 2017 with the goal of raising $3.5 million. Additional patient rooms, more private family space, an enlarged meditation/prayer room, a new multi-family dining space so families can cook and dine together, and having professional staff closer to patients is all part of the plans. The goal is for a sanctuary of peace, love and healing. A place that feels like home.

Through the generosity of the community, construction begins this September on a new addition followed by renovations of the existing unit with expected completion in fall of 2020. Throughout the project, JACH will continue to provide quality hospice and palliative care to patients wherever they call home including the inpatient unit.  If you or a loved one are considering hospice care or would like to be part of this heartfelt project, please contact the Development Department at 815.740.4104 or visit joliethospice.org.
