Follow These 5 Road Trip Safety Tips To Maximize Fall Fun

SPONSORED

Fall can be a popular time of the year for road trips. Good weather makes driving fun, and the countryside can be full of Fall Color. Before you hit the road, make sure you consider the following 5 vehicle safety tips to maximize your fall fun, brought to you by Hawk Volkswagen.

1. Get your vehicle serviced. If you're in the first half of the vehicle manufacturer's recommended time frame between oil changes, you should be good to go. If not, or if you just prefer the peace of mind, arrange to have your car serviced before you leave. The technician will change the oil, check the battery and the various fluid levels, and rotate the tires if needed.

2. If you don't need a tune-up, make sure you have enough windshield washer fluid in the vehicle. This is easy to check, and fluid is available wherever car products are sold - and even in most convenience stores. You never know when you'll be driving through construction areas or on muddy streets, and you don't want to run out of washer fluid when you absolutely need to clean your windshield. Check for wear and tear on the wiper blades to make sure they're in working order.

3. Make sure your vehicle isn't part of a recall. According to Damian Gabrus, General Manager at Hawk Volkswagen in Joliet, the best way to find out if your vehicle is part of a recall is to search www.nhtsa.gov/recalls.

4. Check the air pressure and tread on your tires. According to Gabrus, Under inflation is the leading cause of tire failure that they see.

5. Create an emergency roadside kit to bring along, just in case. Include a cell phone charger, a first aid kit, a flashlight, flares, and a white flag. Make sure you have jumper cables, drinking water, paper towels, blankets, and nonperishable foods.

When you take a road trip, share the road and drive responsibly. Don't drink and drive, and don't text and drive. For more Fall road trip safety tips or to schedule a “Road Trip” safety check up contact:
