Will County GOP Chair: Jones is a racist, has no place in the party

The leader of the Will County Republicans on Monday personally denounced Arthur Jones, a Holocaust denier and candidate for Congress in the 3rd District.

After Jones filed to run for the Republican nomination, George Pearson, the chairman of the Will County Republican Central Committee, released a statement calling Jones a racist.

“Once again, ignorance has reared its ugly head,” Pearson said in
the statement. “It is unconscionable that any well-informed voter would have signed the petition of a known Nazi.”

Jones, 71, a former member of the American Nazi party and a self-described “white racialist,” won the Republican nomination to challenge incumbent U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski, D-Western Springs.

Although he was the only Republican to get on the ballot, Lipinski soundly defeated him in the general election.

However, for the 2020 Republican primary race, Jones will face Catherine O’Shea of Oak Lawn and Mike Fricilone, a Will County Board member from Homer Glen.

Pearson gave Fricilone his “whole-hearted endorsement,” saying he “has demonstrated the actual characteristics of a leader our community desires.”

Jones on Tuesday dismissed the party’s attacks and called its leaders “totally gutless” because “they won’t stand up for their own people.” He also questioned Fricilone’s credentials.

“What has he done?” Jones said.
“I have every right to be in politics.”

Pearson made a point not to mention Jones by name.

“He wants publicity and his name written in releases,” Pearson said in the statement. “Well, that jackass in elephant skin will not get that honor from the Will County Republicans.”
