With each passing day, a bit more of our history slips away. And too often, no one appreciates the past until it’s too late. Just look at the Will County Courthouse, for example.
The courthouse isn’t long for this world. Not with a brand new one nearing completion. So they’re just going to tear it down. Like they did with the one before it. Which is a shame, considering all the people who now wish they'd kept it around.
But it’s too late for that old courthouse from the 19th century. And it’s probably too late for the one that took its place.
What it’s not too late for is the Historic Casseday Mansion, despite the best efforts of Joliet Mayor Bob O’Dekirk.
