Just Breathe Yoga Studio in Crest Hill adapted to the shelter-in-place recommendations during the COVID-19 pandemic in many ways: Facebook Live yoga classes offered seven days a week and making homemade masks.
Owner Pat Perrier fired up her sewing machine and with donations from her mom, Pat Harvey, and two quilting friends, Doris Elder and Kathy Matthews, started sewing.
“It started when my mom asked me to make some for the Memory Care unit at Senior Star,” Perrier said in a news release from the studio.
Then, family needed masks, and friends started asking. She created masks for a yoga student and her family, the teachers at Just Breathe Yoga Studio, her dog trainer and crew, and then it just “kept going.”
She recently delivered a bag of masks to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox and has “material enough for at least another bag.”
Perrier sewed many years ago and was happy to see that her skills hadn’t totally faded.
“I’m not a quilter, and I haven’t made clothes since my kids were little, but I can sew a straight seam, so I just kept going,” Perrier said in the release.
